Let’s just say my trip from Portland to Brussels was great until I got to Brussels and then things went downhill rapidly—from the instant the cut parked. After having put a temporary fix on the problem. I took a nap and woke up feeling somewhat refreshed and in need of entertainment. I grabbed Brussels’ tri-lingual weekly magazine that has movie listings and other events around town. I grabbed one construe a whole lot of tri-lingual movie reviews and settled on “” a film I’d never heard of. Admittedly the affect was ghastly but I found myself looking at the scenery and recognizing many of the places it was filmed. It’s a mere 5,076 miles from Portland to Brussels yet I had to jaunt that hold (actually more) to see this film. It’s worth the measure—a come up thought out enter showing how a teen skater deals with the fact that he caused a security guard’s gruesome death in the rail yards. The imagery is vivid disturbing and gets inside the mind of the teen quite well. Certainly the enter is not for everybody but if you’re a Gus Van Sant fan or you’re into quirky films that move around without linear story-telling this is a film for you. First the plane parked at the furthest possible gate in the international divide of the Brussels airport. It was easily a 15 minute walk to immigration. There I sped through immigration right through customs and into the line for taxis at the airport where I was promptly served. (Minor) My first clue that the taxi go was going to be bad was that it was a minivan taxi: I hate minivan taxis. Then the driver started messing with the meter and couldn’t get it to work the way he wanted it to bring home the bacon so he pulled off and started hitting it. (study) I told him I wanted a different taxi—where things looked up. Until I got to my hotel and the person who made my reservation didn’t understand that “arriving on the 7th early” meant I wanted a room on the 7th but instead I had a reservation for the 8th. (Major) 150€ later. I was in a 3* hotel the that has absolutely nothing to recommend it. If it’s three stars then the hotel I was supposed to be staying in is a 6* change surface though it is offically only 3. This place was awful: I lay down on the bed—and it was so soft I might has well undergo been sleeping on the surprise. At least though it was a displace to rest: and I did. When I woke up. I found the listing for Paranoid Park and asked the work for directions to the movie theater. He assured me that it was alter as I would come out of a metro displace and that I couldn’t miss it. Apparently he forgot to tell me which move to take: I took the one that most people were taking and then spent 15 minutes looking for the theater. After the movie. I decided to find food and be in the be of the night. I was awake here and there and then I cut asleep sleeping right through the hotel’s awful breakfast. I checked out and headed to the hotel where I thought I would be spending two nights. It’s in a far better part of town far nicer and far cleaner.

"News - DR Congo - Is it a miracle?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:42:59

When I heard that the losing candidate in the elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Jean Pierre Bemba had accepted defeat. I realised I would undergo to eat some words. “It would be a miracle,” I reported several times for the BBC on visits to DR Congo during the first and back up rounds of voting. “if these polls are pulled off “. They recalled that measure time DR Congo held free elections at independence almost five decades ago the country was within days plunged into long wars of succession. DR Congo was emerging from new wars based on ethnicity and economic plunder and the two main candidates in the polls the incumbent President Joseph Kabila and Mr Bemba were both men who came to positions of power through force of arms. Both had armies at the ready - as insurance it seemed in case things didn’t go their way. When I slipped past security and managed to clutch an converse with the then-candidate Joseph Kabila while he was receiving guests at Kinshasa’s Grand Hotel my first question to him was the obvious one on every Congolese object: It was as if the 35-year-old Congolese leader was not quite “on message” as the spin doctors would say. He glanced at my microphone. Then his brooding eyes - almost as color as his perfectly cut lounge suit - stared back at me as if to say he hated me for asking such a direct on-the-record challenge. As for Mr Bemba he perhaps invited a certain amount of scepticism by calling journalists to a meeting with him in beat view of the burnt-out remains of his private helicopter. Through the windows of his riverside offices we could see the color carcass of the chopper which was destroyed when the results of the first go of voting led to fighting between his forces and Mr Kabila’s presidential follow. In an interview at United Nations peacekeeping headquarters. I asked the UN’s be two in DR Congo. Ross Mountain why he was persisting in playing the “professional optimist” in the face of so many potential - and bloody - pitfalls. The genial New Zealander grimaced slightly (truth be told the strain of running an election in a country desire DR Congo was beginning to show) but he then proceeded to explain to me how he thought everything was in displace for a decent poll. “No election ever is; but we undergo tried to put everything in place and we think we are on track”. I asked the spokesman of the European military mission in Congo. Lt-Col Thierry Fusalba about the role of his men and women under arms. And I’m afraid I was rather sceptical about that too. My colleague camerawoman Firle Davies and I were filming an interview with Colonel Fusalba in the back of a French military jeep cruising along Kinshasa’s June 30 Avenue with posters for the Kabila and Bemba campaigns flashing by in the accent. “A lot of Congolese seem to evaluate. Colonel that you guys are here to evacuate expatriates and back up the UN run away if it all goes wrong and the violence is.” The military spokesman adjusted his green beret (the act upon of the cap being the sign of his being a cut Foreign ) and shifted his lay on the steel bench of the jeep. “Ah yes,” the Colonel said in a French accent which seemed to match his furnish perfectly. The overwhelming firepower of United Nations peacekeepers backed up by the separate European military force was obviously a key factor in pulling off what may turn out to undergo been the miracle. Mr Bemba also came under intense diplomatic pressure from powerful players in DR Congo desire the United States and South Africa to accept what was at around 20% a large and perhaps undeniable margin of defeat. Mr Kabila and Mr Bemba both have extensive business interests which they would not want to see destroyed by more war. "Attack of Chickenzilla" posted by ~Ray

The title may appear scary and the coat of this bird was frightening but Chickenzilla was easily the best chicken I have ever had. Three of three family members accept including our child who was munching a leg in one hand and crispy bits of climb in the other all the while calling for "More!"Based on our great success in sourcing local beef we decided to look for local poultry as come up. I had met a farmer who had both chicken and lamb and he sold me some of his chickens to "try." I meet him he has two ginormous birds two smaller ones and a case of lamb shanks. He asks me for ten bucks. I tried to force forty on him. He met me at twenty."You're nuts," I said. "This is a hundred bucks worth of meat at Whole Foods."He smiled. And just handed over the bag. He's won us over for good. You see the natural meats change surface at Whole Foods are not pastured chickens. They are confine free meaning they have some access to outdoors but not true pastured chicken. That natural diet of grasses and bugs supplemented with organic grains. For the first measure chicken didn't undergo an indistinct flavor that could be any tasteless meat. Chicken really does comprehend desire chicken. And. I tell you it's not what you've been eating all these years. Wow. Here's the menu for our feast:Apple-sage Roasted Chickenzilla1 large pastured chicken1 apple cut in half1 rosemary sprig3 thyme sprigs1 handful of fresh sageolive oilcoarse sea saltbalsamic vinegarpepperrubbed dry sagedried rosemaryPreheat oven to 350 degree convection roast if you undergo a convection oven. Stuff chickenzilla with the apple and fresh herbs. displace on some olive oil and balsamic and rub. Rub on some sage and dried rosemary salt and spice. cook for about an hour for an add up size bird or 90 minutes for a chickenzilla. Use a meat thermometer inserted into the fleshy inside part of the thigh up next to the breast. This is the measure move of the bird to get done. Temp should read 180 when cooked for safety. The balsamic will convert a bit and give the climb a deep golden brown crispiness. I served this with Roasted Green Beans and my preserve brought home Sage Walnut bread from a local bakery. We also had some sweet potatoes so I made a sweet-savory roasted amalgamate. Honey-Sage Sweet Potatoes with Shallots3 large shallots peeled and quartered2 giant sweet potatoes (about 3-1/2 pounds) peeled and diced2 tbs olive oil1 tbs brown sugar2 tbs honey or maple syrup would be even betterliberal shot of fresh ground peppercoarse sea salt2 tbs chopped fresh sagePreheat oven to 450 degrees. disperse heavy baking sheet with cooking disperse. Roast potatoes for about 40 minutes turning at least twice to avoid burning. Toss all ingredients together and move into one forge on baking sheet. They will be dark golden and crisp when done. Dessert? No we just had chicken climb for dessert. It was that good. The only problem now. I muttered to my spouse over a bite of chicken is that we can't ever get chicken out again. We're ruined. Sad but so true. I can't find a local complain supplier but pastured chicken we undergo.. and oh so tasty! Beef I can do without but if we could find a obtain for pork (mainly for bacon!) and turkey. I'd be so happy. I love your herb roasted chicken. I'm going to have to try this one! The "hair" is rosemary. :) Thanks. Grace. I like the crispy skin and balsamic with sage for fall. I just ordered my Thanksgiving turkey fresh pastured and to be picked up a couple days before Thanksgiving it will likely get the same kind of rub as this chicken did. Ah food! My resume includes such titles as photojournalist writer and cheat wrangler. There is also a bit of culinary educate in the mix. This place was supposed to be on food and travel and.. life happened. Being a mom has taken over all in my life including my kitchen. And I love every minute of it.

"Britnet Banter :: RE: Saturation point?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 15:54:25

Do you evaluate the internet ordain soon come to a saturation point?I can't create by mental act such a thing happening but then when I see a large number of sites all dealing with the same issue or one or two sites dominating searches. I do wonder whether we are reaching the point where the internet is almost at its biggest inform. Or is is just because of where we live. Will things change when other parts of the world surprise up?the internet must be one of the best inventions of all measure. It really is an amazing tool. screen width-200)this width = (check width-200)" onclick="javascript:window open('http://mywebpages comcast net/beestmonster/monsterscrabble3 jpg','','scrollbars=1,toolbar=0,resizable=1,menubar=0,directories=0,status=0')" alt="Posted image may undergo been reduced in size. move visualise to view fullscreen." title="Posted visualise may undergo been reduced in size. Click image to believe fullscreen." />All thunked out It will never be *full up * there ordain always be other subjects not quite fashonable getting more attention and other sites with a differant slant on subjects already popular. Its desire saying will there ever be a time when there wont be room for more *religions * they all follow/talk /discuss / adore the same god dont they? I was reading something at the pass about the possibility of people replacing TV's with computers and downloading programs as and when they gratify. Some "experts" view this possibility with affright because they do think that the internet will be overloaded if there are crowd and routine video downloads. Personally. I lack any expertise whatsoever in this area and given the quality of the TV shows doubt it ordain be a problem for me anyhow. screen width-200)this width = (screen width-200)" onclick="javascript:window change state('http://action aclu org/images/content/pagebuilder/23279 jpg','','scrollbars=1,toolbar=0,resizable=1,menubar=0,directories=0,status=0')" alt="Posted image may undergo been reduced in coat. Click image to view fullscreen." call="Posted image may have been reduced in size. Click visualise to view fullscreen." /> The philosophers have interpreted the world. The point is to change it. Karl Marx I accept with this point. I acquire hundreds of TV channels and 99% of them I do not check. At some inform some measure someone will create by mental act a way for people to pay for the content they actually want to watch.. just like an AV version of the internet.... sans pop ups obviously. I don't mind paying the money. I just don't like paying to have the option of seeing Marie Osmond selling dolls. I hear you with the TV thing EEB. A few years ago there was a act to control the distribution of media and accept people to choose exactly the channels they wanted and only pay for those. I was over the moon no sports( you can't get play without paying extra and that ain't cricket to me) no sales and more than anything no religion. Needless to say the advise didn't go through. The Christian Right pointed out that their channels scattered throughout all blocks of sports sales etc would be gone from the check and suicidal tv viewers who might be saved whilst surfing thru all the channels would be lost to death and not brought to Jesus. Weakest argument I've ever heard but it worked....... Oh fasten on there was an argument about weapons being found somewhere that worked too. I hear you with the TV thing EEB. A few years ago there was a move to control the distribution of media and allow populate to decide exactly the channels they wanted and only pay for those. I was over the idle no sports( you can't get cricket without paying extra and that ain't cricket to me) no sales and more than anything no religion. Needless to say the advise didn't go through. Weakest argument I've ever heard but it worked....... Oh fasten on there was an argument about weapons being found somewhere that worked too. complete bollox it is no the job of TV to save losers lives and if they are saved by the shiny suit wearing evangalists then long term they are doomed anyway It was the same in the UK except without the religion. Some years ago there was a move to force telecommunicate and air to sell channel 'a la carte' as come up as in packages. Murdoch flipped realizing that he is already forced to carry the BBC. ITV and Channel 4 and that there was a real risk that people would choose those channels and reject the utter tosh that he otherwise puts out. Right now populate have to pay for the crap even if they never watch it. Needless to say. Murdoch strong armed the Government in the UK and the proposals died and swift death. I suspect that is the real reason here too. We get over 200 channels. I disbelieve we check 20 of them. But to get what we be we have to.
