Hi assort,i'm running a Debian Lenny/Sid (i386) with a 2.6.18 (2.6.22.6) Kernelinside the Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1. It uses 256MB of Ram and is the only VM on this forge. Host OS isWindows XP SP2 with all security updates from update microsoft com/microsoftupdate. The main Hardware is a Dell Optiplex 210LCPU: 2.8 GHz P4 (PAE)512MB Ram80 Gig HDDHere's the problem:After a few hours or change surface minutes of uptime (don't experience what itdepends on) the virtual harddrive stops responding and the system"freezes". Every command that is in the harddrive cache of the virtualsystem is still working but as soon as the system tries to loadsomething from the disk it hangs there and is not coming back. Waitedfor hours -> nothing. I can switch the virtual consoles of the Linuxbox and also login if /etc/passwd and other things needed resideinside the harddrive cache but that's it. Here everything i tried:On the Windows Host:- disabled SpeedStep in the energymanagement (Profile: always on)- disabled spin down of the harddrives.- checked the network device for "jumbo" or "offloading"-features(yeah no harddrive here but i checked it)VM Settings and Virtual Server Settings:- changed the reserved capacity for the system ressources to somethingnot default (0)- switched from IDE to SCSI adapter and disabled the whole IDE thinginside the Linux-system (as i'm running lvm inside the VM this is nota problem)inside the Linux VM:- switched to SCSI and disabled the whole IDE-thing (moved modules outof the way and build the initramfs with a special modulelist thatholds only the modules i want inside the initramfs)- tried different self build kernels- set clocksource=pit as bootoption in /kick/obtain/menu lst- disabled the NFS-Server (perhaps there is a softlock that is notlogged...)Other things i tried:- tried a completley new installed system in a absoloutly newharddrive-image. Also this problem seems only to appear on DELL Systems. Other SystemsI've tested on don't show this problem. Thanks!
Have you tried running any windows virtual machines to see if they alsohave the same problem? Is the rest of the system responsive when thishappens? Have you checked to see if there any bios updates for yourcomputer?Cheers,Benjamin Armstrong============================Windows Virtualization schedule ManagerBlog: Book: Olli wrote:
